IT PROVED to be a record-breaking
day at Parley when the home side took on Suttoners
in Division Two.
In their innings, Parley reached 179-4 with Alan Graham
(43) and Dave Lallawa (69 not out) adding 91 for the
third wicket.
When Derek Hopkins dismissed number five Roy Smith
for 15, history was made for it proved to be Hopkins'
1,000th wicket in BDCA cricket.
Suttoners made a bad start at 7-3 but Jack Baveridge
managed to score 30. However, the eight-man Parley
attack kept Suttoners down to 106-7.
For Parley, there was extra celebration, for the success
over Suttoners was their first of the season and earnt
them the Taylor Rae Poole Five-a-Side Football leagues
Team of The Week award.
Following the match, record breaking off-spinner
Hopkins was as modest as ever about his achievement
and is now looking forward to his next 1,000 wickets.
Hopkins, the Bournemouth and District Cricket Association
President, has played in BDCA cricket for 35 years
and his achievement is unparalleled in the association's
long history. (Others have done it, although
with the advent of limited overs it'll probably
be the last time)
