| Dorset 1st XI v Sherborne |
|
A bad day at Sherborne started with me losing the toss. It Didn't get much better in the feild apart from Paul Barber's 3-29 and two wickets for Kenny they ended up with 212-5 not a big score. But we forgot how to bat apart from Mabbs 54, Frankie 40 and P.Harding 24 the only scores to talk about we finished up on 168. Not good enough. |

Running a
cricket team is never easy. Running a cricket team that are in
relegation trouble, with people dropping out like flies is a nightmare At this
point I would like to thank Vodafone for their support over the weekend,
I feel sure when they announce their pre tax profits for July, Saturdays
game at Blandford will have had a profound effect on their share value. Hokey
Cokey Cricket came to Suttoners on Saturday. We had 8 players at one
point then we had 14, then we had 12, then we had 9 and finally we had
10 but eventually played with 11. Confused yet???????????
Read on! Firstly
many thanks to Chris Davies, Matty Rideout and Darryl Palmer
who were
in then out and eventually did not play for us. Secondly thanks to Timmy
Gritt, Stuart Lanham, Jess Hodgeson and especially Andy Daish who came
in at the last minute. Thirdly many thanks to god (if he does exist) for
the safe arrival of Chris
Vallis, who turned up and announced he was lucky to be alive after
turning his dads car on its roof the previous afternoon but felt OK
(that is what I call commitment). Matty
Hollier had disappeared off the face of the planet and had not returned
any of my 465 phone calls (thanks again Vodafone) and Bingsy was back in
the side after being in the 1st team for an hour and 10
minutes. By this
time I was almost losing the will to live so we set off towards
Blandford. I was still in a pit of depression when I won the toss and
the only tactical thought was bat first, get out quickly and get back to
the Manor to get very drunk. So we
batted, with a rag tag and bobtail line up that was carefully selected
to mix experience with new players (no rocket science just pick a number
really). We got a great start (59 off 13 overs) thanks to myself and
Chris “ Crash Test Dummie” Vallis, before their skipper took an
amazing one handed diving catch in the covers to remove yours truly.
Jess (only batted once all season) batting at 3 joined Crash Test and
unfortunately Chris perished for an excellent 37 soon after. This
brought Stuart Lanham who hasn’t played for 14 years to the crease.
Jess nurtured him for a while before he was out and Stuart was finally
trapped LBW for an excellent 32. Nicky Dennett carried on the stirling
work and was supported by Adie Ward and Andy Daish, who had never played
cricket before. Nick was eventually out for 23, Rendy came in and scored
a brisk 22, he was supported by Tim Gritt (13) and Bingsy (12) whose
huge 6 took us to 201 before we were all out in the 45th
over. It really was a fantastic performance and better than any of
us could have imagined. We took to the field with a spring in our step
and proceeded to bowl superbly. They had no answer to our accuracy and
the field positioning was spot on. We plugged away and starved them of
runs. We held our catches when they came and Crash Test and Jessie
chased everything to the line and save loads of runs. Timmy was
faultless behind the stumps and took 3 good catches (only 2 given). The
spirit and atmosphere was as good as I have ever seen at Suttoners and
credit to Stuart, Daishy and Timmy for not only joining in but for
leading the support. High light of the day was not a cricketing one but
none the less a fantastic comedy moment. In a live re enactment of Only
Fools and Horses, Stuart Lanham became Trigger and spent the first 18
overs calling Adie Ward – Dave. It was a shame that Jessie spoilt it
by telling him but he was still called Dave for the rest of the game.
They were all out for 154 with Rendy and Bingsy 3 wickets each and Fitzy
and Glen 2 each. 20 points and a lot of memories.
I have notified the Police about Matty Holliers disappearance and
have managed to secure a driving contract for Chris Vallis at Matchams.
Well done everyone. |

A brilliantly sunny day at the Manor, plus it was so hot. So I won the toss again and decided to bat not bad as I only got the team finalized at 1.40).So with the man in the dark glasses (jb 20) holding the opening stands together as the skipper decided to lead from the front and all that (turkey 22). Skippy 23,Richie(the hair)Ballam 13. Then the middle order committed suicide and once again it was left to the tail end to get runs. With Jimmy smashing 28no and Crunchie Ballam showing up big brother Rich with 19no and mr extras 37 we got to 181-9 off our 45 overs ANOTHER BRILLIANT TEA AT THE MANOR. We sauntered out to field, our ground fielding let us down again. They got it in the 32nd over. The highlights were John Arnolds 2 catches and Crunchies keeping a stumping and only 10 byes not bad considering the way we sprayed it about but only 14 wides this week . Now the rant Guys I need your help with getting the stuff out and putting it away I cant do it all .It was proved by the fact that I was still trying to get ready at 1.55 after trying to get dog mess off the pitch and sort out the team after the other teams had decided who they wanted to take. Were off to Chapel gate this week don’t forget were going in shorts and club Polo shirts .No trousers!! and we wont be allowed in for a drink. So were straight back to the manor for a drink. See you Sat. TURKEY.

| Hampshire 1st XI v Hyde & Dibden 2nd's |
| Ben hit 12 from the first over before being one of two quick wickets to fall, allowing Malc 53 and Dave Barber (who stepped in at the very last minute) with 61 put on a partnership of 82. Chris Davies 19no aided by Barney, Darryl and Sam took the score along to 174-7. A wicket with his first ball ( a first time for Suttoners ) for Bill, some lucky batting and poor fielding signaled the usual slipping away of the game. With Bill 2-39 and Derek 3-40 having little fortune as a four wicket defeat came in the 39th over. |
