Suttoner Match Reports For Saturday 18th June + Youth Reports For that Week

Dorset 1st XI     v   Swanage
Batting first at 11-2 it looked dodgy with Martin and Chris back in the hutch. But our middle order shone again with Paul H 40, Neil C 37 who set up a 134 partnership for matty and a brilliant 66 ball 105 no for Chris Rawlings. We finished on 292-8. We then bowled Swanage out for 93 Paul B 4-37, Dave B 1-25,Chris R 3-27 and Kenny 2-3 with a good fielding display and 20 points
Dorset 2nd XI  v  Kinston Lacey

It was billed as a 6 pointer, a relegation battle as the 2 bottom clubs in Division 3 of the Dorset League went head to head.A glorious summers day saw us travel to Kingston Lacy with an Army of supporters and a bag full of expectations and Pimms. Our recent form with the bat and the fact that we had 6 bowlers in the side swayed my decision to field first in the now blazing sun. It looked a good decision after 12 overs with Barry and Frankie both bowling well. I think the heat got to some of us and the wheels came off a bit but Frankie retuned well to finish with 11-1-34-4
and Bingsy went straight through for 12-2-32-2. Some excellent catches from Rendy, Taylor (2) and Wardy (2) kept them to 195-9. Even though Clive Johns was a late withdrawal due to work, I felt we had a good line up and we set about getting the runs in the usual fashion.Nicky Dennett was out first ball of our innings and he was soon being consolled by another 3 of our top order as we slumped to 17-4. Fitzy and Graham Martin steadied the ship but the seas were rough for a while. At one point we actually took control of the game and Lacy were more than a little worried. Fitzy had to retire hurt with a bad back and unfortunately while he was stretching we lost another 2 wickets. Fitzy returned and Graham departed for an excellent 31 and Fitzy followed soon after for 57 in the chase for runs. An excellent rearguard action from Adie Ward (22no) and Glen Urquhart (13) made the game look respectable with a total of 157 and another defeat. So we are going into the final game of the front 9 with only 1 win to our name, surely we can do better than this. Application s required from the batters and we can turn this around.

Dorset 3rd XI  v  Cricketeers

I broke the spell and won the toss and decided to bat (the rest of the team approved , as we weren’t going to be running around in the heat). The man in the dark glasses perished, first Tim rode his luck to top score 26, Skippy 11, Barney(yes I’m sober)Gritt 11, running 3, six times with Sam (im back)Taylor 9, John Arnold 12not out And yes Bill now has an average. We finnished on 98 only about 150 short. In for another excellent tea and then back out into the heat. They decided they didn’t want to hang around with there opener blasting 76 we had conceded 46 off 7 overs .Sam Taylor 1-24 taking his first wicket for us, Bill 1-6 and Turkey 1-12 the game was finish ed at the end of 14 overs  Good team spirit ,well get there. It might be a good idea if we put boxes on the bats as most of the team have been hit there this season???????????  Well were off to sunny Blandford this Sat, when we sort out where, passports will be issued . Except bill and me who have local status there. Any body available this week will more than likley get A game especially if you have a mini bus.

TURKEY

Hampshire 1st XI   v   Bashley 4th's
Early wickets lost then a determined fight back but with no one reaching 20 in our total of 112. Excellent attitude in the field kept them at bay for 36 overs when they won by 5 wickets. Jess 3-21, and  Derek 1-20 and Chris Davies with his first Hampshire wicket, We gave away 26 extra's this week. A gradual improvement.
Colts XI v Bransgore

The poor display by the under 14s prompted a pre match team talk from myself to the under 16s. After the reports of last weeks debacle, changes were made to the batting order and upon winning the toss we put into operation one of the best “team” batting displays I have ever seen. Running between the wickets was excellent and shot selection was good. When they bowled well, we batted with respect and every batsman contributed. Owen Farnes batting at 3 scored a fantastic 24 and was well supported by Chris Ballam (18) all batters contributed and the final over reaped 17 runs from the lower order. Our bowling and fielding was equally impressive and everyone showed a much better attitude. Lewis Fitzjohn (4-17-1) and Will Gordon (4-19-1) took the game from them early, leaving Ben Hunter (4-26-3_ and Lewis Chakabvapasi (3.2-0-25-5) to remove them for 87 and a great win. Well played everyone

U14's v  Bournemouth Barbarians
It was the turn of Bournemouth to host our under 14s on Sunday and once again we were greeted with glorious sunshine. Pick of our bowlers was Lewis Fitzjohn (2-36) and Matty Ward (2-36), we assisted them in their 143 with lethargic fielding, but on a positive note only 5 wides and 3 no balls. And so to the batting. We were awful and I mean awful, the work we do on Tuesday evenings all seemed a distant memory as batsman after batsman perished with a dazzling array of bad shots. Only 3 exceptions to the criticism. Matty Ings (15), Tom Kier, and Lewis Fitzjohn. All out 51, very embarrassing because we are better than that. Oh and we lost!!!!!
U13's v Bournemouth Eagles

The U13's turned up at the sunny manor with a full team to play Bournemouth Eagles.  They batted 1st and at the drink break (10 overs) were 91-1.  I don't know what Lisa put in the drinks but after 20 overs their score was 156-6.  Pick of the bowling was Matty 2-24 & Josh 2-27.  Ryan took his first catch behind the stumps and we only gave 7 wides, a much-improved effort.  In reply, at 30-4 it looked like an early finish, but Tom joined Charlie at the wicket and they started hitting the ball all over the park and when Charlie retired on 30 they had put on a 51 run partnership.  Tom (14 no) and Craig then saw us to the end with 96-5.  Thanks to Nick for scoring, Lisa for the drinks and the boys for playing some great cricket in a good team spirit.

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE NOW OVERDUE.
