Suttoner Match Reports For Saturday 20th August

Dorset 1st XI     v   Swanage

We won the toss and batted proceeding to 60 until a mix up ran out Chris I. in the 16th.over. We continued along at 4.5 runs per over Martin 52 , Mike 27 until Chris R. 48 and Gary 52 n.o.came together with the score at 131. They put on 101 for the sixth wicket in 13 overs our score finishing 247-6. From the beginning Swanage used spoiling tactics , regularly shouldering arms to Mikes opening overs , never looking to win the game crawling to 26-0 off 13 overs. Various changes to the bowling to tempt their batsmen were made but to no avail. They achieved batting spirts such as 63 from 21 overs but no until the 25th. over did we get a wicket. With the large crowd having now left in droves Swanage totalled 162-6. Chris R. 3-31. Only 18 points for the game needing us to now go to Dorchester and win.

Dorset 2nd XI  v  Kingston Lacey

Like any good thriller, Saturdays game had everything, suspense, mystery, twists, humour, all of these and a happy ending. With the game due to start at 1.30 I received a very late call from Kenny taking Frankie for the 1st XI. With the worst week of the season for availabilities, I had to make the phone call to MattyRideout who had earlier gallantly offered his services. So after winning the toss and asking them to bat, we proceeded to bowl like demons. Rendy and Chris Vallis tied them in knots from the start and when Glen and Fitzy came on the wickets started to fall and the runs started to dry up again. A great catch from Andy Daysh and another impressive one from "Dave" Ward had them at 5 down and Dayshy was again at the bottom of the huddle when he helped run out their skipper and get us another bonus point. So we held them to 148-6. We would have liked a couple more wickets but that would be greedy!! So the batting started well with Doo Dah nibbling one to the keeper and this started the Kingston Chirp machine. Johnsy and Crash Test took the score into the 90s before Clive was adjudged Bat before wicket for a fine 57. All joking aside I felt their umpire was excellent all day and did both ends in both innings very fairly. So with 58ish to win we entered the Lemming phase of the game. First to go was Crash Test who ended his excellent innings of 38 with an awful shot. Enter Nick Dennett, Exit Nick Dennett. Enter Paul Rendell, Exit Paul Rendell. Enter Adie Ward and sanity was restored for a while. Adie and Fitzy set about rebuilding and got the score to 125 before Fitzy got a nasty lifter and was caught for 19. Tim Gritt joined Adie and played some flowing shots that took us towards our target. Then the Lemmings came back. First Dave then Tim and with 8 required Andy Daysh joined Glen at the crease. By this time the team were assembled on the side lines to witness the finish which was too tight to call. With 3 required Glen
scampered a single to expose Andy to their opening strike bowler. After a couple of good defensive shots the bowler went for the short ball. Andy Daysh calmly waited and then in a shot more reminiscent of a Tim Henman serve, swatted Greg to the long off boundary. The ball didnt make it but we had the 2 runs required for victory and Dayshy had given himself something to talk about for the next 3 weeks. Well done everyone and special thanks to Matty and Andy for stepping in again. We still need 9 points from the last game so please try and lose the Lemming shots!!!!!!!!

Dorset 3rd XI  v   Cricketeers

After once again increasing the phone companies profits, we arrived at Branksome Wreck with John Arnold skippering the side again after only having four overs last week. Well John followed tradition and lost the toss and we were put in the field. At this point their skipper is seen heading off into the sunset. John had his first problem of the day who to open the bowling with Shaun from the sun reflection end (I will explain later) and Martin (I don’t want to bowl today) Turk from the car park end. Turkey taking the first two wickets both bowled, while at the other end Shaun was bowling to a batsman complaining of the sun reflecting off a car in the road and getting stroppy with his team mates as they wouldn’t get it moved so he was out to a good catch by Skippy, at this point he disappears off into the sunset. Good catches by John and Nick Arnold put Turkey on a hatrick, an lbw and Turkey takes his first hatrick in memory, finishing with 11-2-23-5. Crunch with 1-28, Sam Taylor 1-17(Turkey juggling the catch), Matty Ward 1-17(bowled) his first wicket in senior cricket (well done godson), And with Shaun taking his second of the day (Matty with his first catch for us) 2-29. They finished on 154. Best catch of the day went to Glyn Arnold (John and Nicks dad playing for the first time in years) running in the deep but off a no ball (only a hint of the non-striking bat telling the umpire no ball). Who else but our man in the dark glasses would spot a naked woman in the house with the reflecting car, maybe their regretting not going to get the car moved ????????????????We went for tea (4).Sam (0) and Jack (8) opened the batting but it was Glyn (I’m going to ache in the morning) with43 and Shaun (I didn’t see the fielder in the sun’s reflection) running himself out on 39,and the rest of us not doing a lot it was left to Crunchie 15no and Matt (I’ve had a G’day) 2no to see us home in the 38th over. A brilliant Win by a side on team spirit alone. Final match of the season this sat against Blandford and John will skipper the side again hopefully we will keep them under 200 this time. Thank you to everybody who has stuck with me this year and its up to you guys who skippers the side next year, as I can’t do Tuesday evenings for selection.

TURKEY

Hampshire 1st XI   v   Verwood

For a game we needed to win all manner of excuses and reasons left us with eight cricketers and two last minute stand ins ( thanks Kevin and will). From 129-2 they fell to 151 all out with Bill and Derek 8-46 between them in 24 overs, work out the rest. Richie 26 and Darryl 18 helped us to 82-2 then the collapse to 91-5 before derek 18 and Aaron with a quite superb 53 no eased us to 123-6 only to stop at 137. With a full team almost certainly a win, Hey Ho.
