Suttoner Match Reports For Saturday 28th May + Youth Reports For that Week

Dorset 1st XI     v   Beaminster
On Winning the toss, Beaminster elected to bat and despite a good opening spell from Paul Barber they got off to a good start, and at 109-3 off 30 overs it looked like we would be chasing a big score. But with Dave Barber 2-39, Paul Harding 2-34 and Chris Rawlings 3-41 they finished up on 214-7.With our first wicket putting on 86, Martin Finch 32 and the second on 143, Mike Mabbatt 21, Neil Corbin 22 no and a brilliant 120 no by Chris Insall saw us home in the 37th over and another good win with 18 points
Dorset 2nd XI  v   Poole Town 2nds

Losing the toss and being asked to bat was excellent because I would have batted anyway. A great start fromClive(61),Graham(10)and Colin Rickman (30) was continued briefly by Garry Coffin (22). Middle order problems then kicked in and tight bowling held us to 180 with only Fitzy (15) in double figures. I felt we were about 30 short of what we needed but what I didnt expect was the number of dropped catches we would be guilty of or the number of lives their opener would have. Excellent first spell from Frankie 6-1-12-2 gave us a chance and 2 wickets for Garry gave us hope at the end but some very good batting
from their number 4 and some outrageous luck from their opener saw them home in the 43rd over. Well bowled Rendy 7.2-1-14-0 and congratulations on his 101 not out on Sunday.

Dorset 3rd XI  v  Marnhull 2nds
We lost the toss and Marnhull batted first. At one stage we had them 43-4, Rich Ballam 2-31,Sean Lewis 2-39. However that was the last wicket we got and they finished on 231-4, good catches from Jim and Taylor. Generally our batting was poor especially as it was a good batting wicket. Taylor 34, Rich 21, Jon Arnold 10 and Jockey 10 we finished 103 all out. Very disappointing.
Hampshire 1st XI   v  Mudeford 3rds
Richie Robinson 25, Matty hollier 27, Aaron Brown 29 but we could only muster 115 all out.  Sam, Chris, Aaron (1-28) and derek (2-18) all bowled well but not good enough to take the wickets.
Colts XI v Broadstone
. The under16s came up against a very strong batting side and were set a 157-8 winning target. 3 wickets for Luke Miller and 2 each for Sam Taylor and Taylor Broadbent. Greg Murray with an excellent retirement on 35 was well supported by Taylor who also retired on 35 and it was left to Sam Taylor (19 not out) and Lewis Chakabvapasi (9) to try and score the 50 required to win. We fell 27 short of their total for a hat trick of defeats over the weekend.
U14's v Broadstone
The Under 14s  played Broadstone and one of the best innings I have seen from Josh Murray (30 retired) wasn’t supported by anyone except Lewis Fitzjohn (19 – Career best!!! ) and extras (31) to see us score 92-6. They passed our total comfortably for the loss of 2 wickets.
U13's v Bransgore

The Under 13s gave Bransgore 3 extra overs in wides as they reached 140-5. 2 wickets for Toby (2-18) and Matty Ward (2-25)  and 2 catches for Tom Kier. With the exception of Tom Kier (16) and Ali Garrard (8), who were playing their first under 13 match, we struggled batting and were all out for 55.

On Sunday we hosted St Albans Under 14s in the annual tour match. To be fair they did tell me they were strong but just how strong we found out. A 40 over a side game was scheduled but after 20 overs we were all out with only Lewis Fitzjohn (20) coming to terms with their bowling. Our total of 60 something was soon eaten up leaving time for another match after tea (massive thanks to Dawn and Lisa). We decided on a 20 over a side match and once again St Albans won the toss and asked us to bat. We introduced a ringer (Frankie) and they used the same bowlers that destroyed us in the first game. Apart from Frankie with 15 we were all out again for 36 in 10 overs and the game was over quickly when their opener Mr Jayawardena demolished us. Their squad contained 7 county players (Middlesex) and they have not lost for nearly 3 years. No disgrace but an eye opener for some of our lads. Across the line is not the way forward!!!

The St Albans awards went to Lewis F (Batting) Sam Taylor (Bowling) and Chris Ballam (Player of the day)
