| Dorset 1st XI v Parley |
|
Well an interesting start to what promises to be an eventful season. Parley won the toss and elected to bat on a pleasant but chilly day. Barry Ings was called up late (No change there) and opened the bowling with the new lad James Dillon. They both bowled well with no luck on a slow pitch. Parley got off to a steady start without ever scoring quickly. Elliot Brookes came into the attack and took 2 good wickets. We kept plugging away and at 135-5 it was looking good for us. An important moment then came as an appeal for caught behind was turned down which at tea the batsmen admitted he had hit (He went on to score 85) Parley closed on 289-6. The disappointing aspect was us giving away 64 extras!! something we will need to work on. After a fantastic tea we set about chasing the score but unfortunately got off to a terrible start being 25-3. We were always up and above the run rate but kept losing wickets and were eventually bowled out for 170. Well done Matt Hollier scoring a good 38 and also Adam Clifford a defiant 20 no at the death. We need to make sure that we bat in partnerships giving ourselves small targets as we go. There is no hurry as 50 overs is a long time especially when you keep wickets in hand. Anyway plenty to work with and lets have a good go at Blandford this week. Thanks to Barry and Adam for coming in at the last minute. |
| Dorset 2nd XI v Bere Regis |
|
So once again another winter had ended and we started 18 weeks of intense cricket , drama, fun and frivolity. True
to form we had the usual withdrawals, two from my team early on and two
from the first team on the Saturday morning. It always starts the day
off well when you see “Creepy Calling” flash up on your mobile. You
somehow know it wont be good news. Anyway we assembled a team and roped
our umpire (Derek) into playing and the season was underway. The
wicket at Bere Regis looked stunning and was a real credit to their
groundsman as were the whole surroundings. So it was with a sigh of
relief that I lost the toss and let their skipper make a decision. He
chose to bat and so did one of their openers. After 5 overs they were 35
– 0 and we were thinking the worst. However we had a cunning plan and
as soon as their big hitter was out wickets fell regularly and
35-1 became, 56-2 and 65-3 and 100-4 and the introduction of
super Chrissy Davies with a very useful 5.1-2-9-4 saw them back in the
changing room for 147. The two bald spinners did their bit with Fitzy
8-1-28-3 and Derek 10-0-41-2 the other wicket going to Frankie
(7-1-24-1). So quick was
our demolition (33 overs) the tea wasn’t ready so Fitzy and Johnsy had
to face 6 overs before tea. Tea was taken with the score on 17-0 and
confidence was high, both batsmen looking solid and finding the
boundary. After tea that continued and we progressed towards their
target with ease. Fitzy was dropped at first slip but Clive was
chanceless. Apart from Fitzy nearly being killed by a Johnsy rocket it
was all plain sailing and with the score on 145-0 Fitzy decided to take
an early lead in the averages and got out for 55. Johnsy carried his bat
for an excellent 88 and we were off and running with a 20 point win.
Thanks to everyone that stepped in, thanks to Christine for scoring and
thanks to the army of fans that came and watched.

| Hampshire 2nd XI v |
| U15's v Hamworthy |
|
The Under 15s opening match was a local derby v Hamworthy. We won the toss and Taylor elected to bat. Matty Ward and Josh Murray were very solid in defence but runs were hard to come by. Extras were playing a significant part in our total and our final total of 96 was thanks to 39 extras which included 18 wides. So we only managed to score 96 off 23 overs. Saying that the bowling was generally good and there were some good batting displays from Matty Ward, Matty Ings and Cody Hayman who all got into double figures before getting out. Lewis and Ben Woodrow did very well at the end and added 26 from the last 3 overs.I thought our bowling was very good and we were well set to put up a good finale in the gloom at Kinson.Unfortunately 2 bad overs ended our optimism and we were beaten with 2.5 overs remaining. Well bowledSam Brown 3-0-9-1 and Charlie Martin 4-0-16-2 Cody was also miserly with 3-0-6-0 so there were some very good points from a defeat that could have been a victory. |
| U14's v Parley |
| The season started when we played Parley in the under 14 league. We welcomed 3 new players to the club, Kristian Blanch, Scott Wheeler and Adam Kay an they all made their debut on Sunday. We lost the toss and Parley opted to bat. We bowled very well and Cody Hayman took an early wicket. Steady bowling all the way through saw us restrict them to 131 with wickets for Cody, Adam, Craig Dennett, Kristian and Toby. In reply we finished just short on 94 but some excellent batting from Josh Murray, Toby Saunders, Adam Kay and Cody Hayman meant that we did very well against a very good side with 3 very quick bowlers. Very well done to Sam Brown who is the new under 14 captain and did a great job with his encouragement and field placings. |
