Suttoner Match Reports For Saturday 2nd July + Youth Reports For that Week

Dorset 1st XI     v   Weymouth 2nds
A good toss to win and I put them into bat and with one of our best bowling and feilding displays we bowled them all out for 96. Mike, Paul H and Adam taking one wicket each. Barry 10-4-12-1 after being hit for 4 on his first ball, finished of by Chris Rawlings 10-4-13-6 who was superb. Then it was the Martin 59no and Chris 35no show as they finished off the game in 16 overs. A big thanks to Adam stepping in for Neil at late notice. Keep it going.
Dorset 2nd XI  v  Pavilion Sports

Entertaining, Historic, Exciting, Nailbiting, Seat Gripping, Tense and Unmissable. All of these words applied to Live 8 and England v Australia but none applied to Pavillion v Suttoners 2nd XI in Division 3 of the Dorset League.
Once again I won the toss and asked them to bat, which they did and scored 234-9. Pick of the bowlers was Fitzy with 11-1-57-3, Chris Vallis 4-0-24-2, Glen 12-2-43-2 and Frankie 12-0-67-2. Five dropped catches didnt help and the 2 that noboby even went for
were scandalous, so we let them off the hook at least 7 times which maybe would have meant chasing 170 instead of 234.
It sounded a lot to chase and it was!! Even on a small ground and we made yet another major league hash of it.10-1 became 16-2 which became 26-3 (Clive had 24 of those), 34-4 and 47-5. Fitzy and Nicky Dennett then tried to put a bit of stability back into the game and kept them out doubling the score. Fitzy (31) dragged one into his stumps to finish his one and a half hour marathon. He was followed by Nick (31) before Chris Vallis showed glimpses of his ability with a well played 26. Chris`s departure started a hat trick for one of their bowlers which had us all out for 127.(At least he paid for a Jug at the Manor) Make no mistake we were well beaten by a good side that wanted to win. Some of our players need to apply themselves a great deal more than they are at present or we will lose every game for the rest of the season. We need team spirit, we need support and we need to liven ourselves up a bit. We have no divine right to score runs or take wickets, you get out what you put in. Some people are trying but there needs to be a much bigger effort from everyone to make a difference.

Dorset 3rd XI  v  Xchurch 2nds

Well on a dark & misty Manor I went back to usual and lost the toss and we were asked to field. We should have got off to a dream start but down went the catch and a couple more later and some poor ground fielding (skipper included) we let them get 225 at least it was 100 less than last week. Jim did well 1-15,Nick (little john)Arnold 1-21 and big brother John getting his first FIVE wicket haul 5-41 with help from Tim Gritt 3 stumpings(who was the last Suttoners keeper to do this ?). No I didn’t try to get the ball back that went out of the ground.

Another fine tea uninterrupted by a mad haggis away at a family fight sorry wedding.

We wandered out to bat jack(30 run out to knackered to get there after running shed loads with the kids), Tim 15, Skippy getting a pair against Christchurch, Ben (diver)Hunter 11,Gingsy 20,Shaun 15,and Nick a fine 7 and with the skipper electing to give every body a bat he took over from bill protecting his ave not out we finnished at 144.

We produced some good bits but to many not so good. There will be a lot of changes this week so some of us will miss out this sat but please be available as well need all the support as we get through the rest of war &peace this summer .

TURKEY

Hampshire 1st XI   v   Bournemouth 3rd's
Bournemouth 3rds batted first and amassed 211 all out. Well done to Richard Ballam who bowled superbly with 11 overs 4-30. In reply we got 179-8, with both Taylor and Dion getting 37, and Barney smashing 33 at the end. A game well forgotten
