Suttoner Match Reports For Saturday 4th June + Youth Reports For that Week |
| Dorset 1st XI v Portland RT |
| Fielding first we got off to a great start having Portland 3-5 off 3 overs. After 20 overs they were 54-6, Barry 3-16 and Mabbs 3-33. They were well backed up by Chris 2-17 and Jessie 1-19. The only moan being we had them 78-9 and they went on to be 120 all out, 38 runs from the last wicket 21 of them being extra's. On the batting side we got the runs for the loss of just one wicket in 22 overs, with our one ,am team scoring 21 runs and Martin 64 no, with Garry Coff 25 no seeing us home. Thanks to Jess and Garry coming in at short notice and prforming well which just goes to show our strength in depth. Well done lads. |
| Dorset 2nd XI v Witchampton |
|
A
couple of last minute replacements were required by the first team but
once again we travelled to Witchampton with a strong, well balanced
side. I won the toss and we batted. What I should have said was, “We
won the toss and Clive Johns batted”. With the exception of Colin
“Ricky Dicky Doo Dah” Rickman (10) and Rendy (27 not out) no other
batsman scored more than 1 in our final score of 148. Two shocking
umpiring decisions did for Taylor and Chris Davies but the rest of us
need to sort ourselves out. When I tell you that Clive scored 102 of
those you get a rough idea of how bad the rest of us were. Their openers
were very aggressive and after 2 maidens they opened their shoulders.
Changes were made and Glens figures of 12-3-28-4
gave us a slight glimmer of hope. Good bowling from Frankie and
Chrissy Davies couldn’t stop the inevitable as they won in the 41st
over. Great team spirit, lots of laughs, it is great having Clive back
in the side, not only for his ability but for the atmosphere he creates.
Mind you saying that, if he hadn’t been there on Saturday we would
have been finished by 3.30 and we wouldn’t have known who Ricky Dicky
Doo Dah was!!!. |

| Hampshire 1st XI v Brockenhurst |
| Last week versus Brockenhurst we didn't bat (except Malc 23 and Cal 18) we only made 88-7. We made them work hard for the runs for 25 overs but without getting a wicket. |
| Colts XI v Bournemouth |
| Unfortunately the great British summer weather, wiped out the Colts league match against Bournemouth. Never mind, it’s the cup next week and a chance for death or glory!!!!! |
| U14's v Bournemouth "A" |
| The under 14s also faced Bournemouth and also fielded first. An early wicket for Charlie Martin (4-0-13-1) kept them to just 7 runs from 3 overs and Lewis Fitzjohn who also took a wicket supported him well. At this point we were fielding and bowling well. Unfortunately their batsmen got stronger and we got more wayward. Ali Garrard playing in only his second match was the star with the ball with 3-31 from 3.4 overs Their final total of 136 was too many for us, or so I thought!!! After losing 2 quick wickets Josh Murray and Matty Ings consolidated things and we got back into attack mode. A mixture of youthful exuberance and mouthy district / county comments were silenced by Josh (20) and Matty (12). Josh was run out with the score on 53 in only the 8th over. Matty was joined by Lewis Fitzjohn (11 not out) and when Matty was out Charlie Martin stepped up for a “career best” 13 not out. We were beaten by a better and bigger side but we did not disgrace ourselves. Final score 96-5 not far away from 136 and a great effort. |
| U13's v Bournemouth |
|
The under 13`s lost the toss and Bournemouth batted first, considering we only had seven players, the team fielded excellently, with Matt 3-21, Charlie 1-12 and Craig 1-28, his first wicket and Nick wasn't there to see it! One catch by Sam and they were all out for 105 in 14 overs. In we went to bat with the managers advice to stay there and take your time. Josh & Matt played well and took the score to 30 before the `1st wicket fell. Josh played a skippers innings and retired on 30, his last three balls 4, 6, 4. Unfortunately with us assisting Bournemouth with three run outs we fell short on 77 all out. A great team effort by all seven players and none of them let themselves or the club down; we might have won if everyone had turned up. Thanks to Jason for scoring |
