Suttoners Match Reports For Saturday + Youth Reports For that Week-------6th May

Dorset 1st XI     v   Blandford

Batting first Blandford were restricted to 253-9 of their allotted overs. Suttoners found themselves in trouble at 75-5 before skipper Chris Rawlings  (88) and Tasmanian James Dillon (65) combined to bring suttoners in sight of victory but Blandford skipper had other ideas with a spell of 4-40 as Suttoners came up just short of the target.

Dorset 2nd XI  v  Branksome

I am not going over old ground but trying to get 11 players for Saturday was an absolute nightmare!!!!! Ben and I must have boosted the end of year pre tax profits for all the major phone companies in our attempts to field 2 teams. On a day when rain has been forecast, the last thing you need to do is lose the toss. So I lost the toss and we were asked to bat. With the exception of Clive (35), Graham 17 and a great knock at the end from Richie Ballam (20 not out) we were awful. No application in the batting department at all. Yes they bowled well but our shot selection was terrible and we were found out very quickly. We fell for 103 nowhere near enough runs on a very placid manor track.

We went out to bowl and within 7 overs  they had reached 32-0 and cruising. Disaster struck when Luke Crutcher pulled a muscle in his back and had to be withdrawn. I took over from Frankies end and Frankie took over at Crutchers. Within 4 overs they were 40-4 and Frank was on fire removing numbers 1, 2 and 3 in quick succession. The runs had now dried up and when Frankie had to be replaced due to age restrictions, Richie Ballam secured his man of the match award with 6 very tidy overs that only cost 18 runs. Fitzy finished his spell with 12-3-22-3 and when Frank returned for his 2nd spell he bagged another 3 to finish with 9-2-33-5. Garry Coffin took their last wicket and secured our victory at 85 all out. Special mentions for Tim Gritt 2 catches one an absolute stunner. Frankie for 3 catches. Adie (Dave) Ward for getting his shin in the way of a Jimmy Rushen Rocket and Lee Johnson who filled in at the last minute to more than fill a gap in the field and share in a last wicket stand of 23 without which we would have lost!!!  Well done everyone a fantastic game and a real confidence booster.

Hampshire 1st XI  v  Commoners

After a nightmare first week as captain trying to get players, with the help of Fitzy and Derek, I finally had an 11 that I was pleased with. I won the toss and elected to field. Commoners totalled a score of 201, with one of their batsman scoring 110 of those runs, hitting 10 sixes in the process. Special mention has to go to Derek, who, as always, kept the run rate down, bowling 10. 0. 40-4 and Lewis Fitzjohn who bowled superbly 5. 0. 17-0. in reply, Aaron scored an excellent 45, whilst nearly every batsman contributed qith a double figure score. Young Matty Ward won us the game with a fantastic 30 not out, where a victory seemed unlikely. Thanks to Dave Vallis, Lewis and Matty for playing at the last minute, and to Fitzy for allowing me to keep the core of my team.

Hampshire 2nd XI   v  Ellingham 3rds

We achieved a first, getting to Saturday with the same team as picked on Tuesday evening.
I won the toss and elected to bat. With Jack and Crunch(14)we were 28 for 3 then Sean(37) and
Glynn(47)got us to 109 for3 and only turkey( 12) getting in to double figures out of the last 6
batsmen we finished on 139 from 29overs only about 40 or 50 short.
After a good tea (9) we wandered out to field and they took nearly 37 overs to get them.
Jim 1-18, John2-16 (both with cafateria bowling), Nick 1-15 & Crunch 1-32.Not bad only 17extras.
Jack, Skippy (how`s the chest) and Turkey with a catch each.
The funnies were Owens splits,Sam sliding the wrong way a couple of times, Glynn and the
square leg umpire chatting away while the batsman waited with a look as bad as the weather.
A game played in the right spirit but with the wrong result.
TURKEY

U15's  v  Parley

The under 15s came up against a very strong Parley side and bowled superbly with 10 men. We restricted them to 113 from 18 overs and then proceeded to bat like a load of blind mice. Across the line is not the way forward. The exception to this criticism was Lewis who opened the batting when no one else wanted to and carried his bat for 19 while everyone else perished. You all need to listen more at training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

U14's  v  Parley

The under 14s were stunning and I mean stunning. Josh Murray (30 ret) looked semi professional and was well supported by everyone especially Cody (30 ret), Toby (11) and Ali Garrard (10) to take us to 137-8 from 20 overs. The opening bowlers killed the game with Adam Kay 3-2-1-0  the star. Wickets then fell to Charlie Martin 4-0-7-3, Craig Dennett 4-0-19-2 and a wicket each for Scott Wheeler and Kristian Blanch to round off a great performance in which everyone was involved. They finished on 101 – 9. Well played everyone and don’t listen to the coach when he tells you to dead bat the ball and run!!!!!!!

U13's  v  Poole Town

On Saturday we visited Poole Town at Whitecliffe Rec.  Once again Matt won the toss and asked them to bat.  Some tidy bowling by all the bowlers after 15 overs they were 83 all out.  Charlie 3-16, Matt 2-7 and Tom 2-23.  Harry had his first bowl for the club and ended up 0-6 off 2 overs.  In to the changing room for the mid innings chat on a high.  I told them the job was only half done we have to get them yet.  We collapsed to 17-5 until Craig (11) was joined by Tom (8no) got us to 38-6.  We ended 43AO with 5 ducks in 18 overs.  We must improve our calling and running.  Too many single were not taken.

U10's

U9's  v  Bransgore

What a start to the under 9s season; new team new rules and a new set up organised by me!!!!!!!!!! Enough said!!! If you’re not sure of the rules I will send them onto you but the idea is, it is 8 a side, 2 batsman bat for 4 overs, they can get out as often as they like but will have 6 runs deducted from the overall score. Each innings starts at 200 and there will be 16 overs in an innings. Makes sense? Jacob Martin went captain for the first game and lost the toss (trying to explain the toss was an experience I will not forget in a hurry!!!) Bransgore batted first, then, the moment of truth arrived, could we bowl straight? Could we field? Could we keep wicket? My nerves were on tender hooks then Alex Martin came running in, first ball of the new era, he bowled a beamer which hit the batsman on the head and fell over!!!!!!!! 2 months of training and a boy is on the ground!!!! Could things get any better? Of course they could young Alex came roaring back with 2 wickets and a catch, Jacob or is it George Martin bowled 3 maidens and the other twin took 2 wickets, Jake took a wicket Alex Coffin took a catch, young Toby dived here dived there and bowled straight and George Bratt who didn’t want to bowl took a wicket. Everyone bowled everyone kept wicket and everyone fielded really well. Bransgore ended up with 216 could we do it? Read on and find out……. Alex C and George B opened the innings and George cover drove for 2 runs on the first ball, the nerves had left watching all the boys trying to hit the ball properly trying to call for singles and backing up. Every one of the boys scored runs Toby 9, George B 13 Alex C 6, Alex M 6, Jacob 14, George M 10, Jake 6 all batted really well and they also tried to defend the ball, I didn’t teach them that. We ended up with 267 and the wild celebrations began, what a night………..
