Suttoner Match Reports For Saturday 9th July + Youth Reports For that Week

Dorset 1st XI     v   Fovant

Batting first we scored 339-9, not bad after being 64-4. A brilliant 174, 5th wicket partnership between Chris Insall (133) and Paul Harding (69) pulled us out of trouble, finished of with a fluent 37 no from Francis Fitzjohn. We then went on to bowl Fovant out for 179,Frankie with 3 wickets 2 each for Paul H and Mike Mabbs.Another thank you for the people who came in at late notice and for 20 points

Dorset 2nd XI  v  Cattistock

Due to the first team being almost decimated through injury, holidays and other commitments, we were lucky we only lost our opening batsman (Clive)  and opening bowler (Frankie). Many thanks to Kenny for not taking more!!! Once again I won the toss and I asked them to bat. A great opening spell from Chris Vallis 7-2-13-0 and Chris Davies restricted them at the start. Glen came on and bowled well taking a couple of vital wickets at vital times and he was well supported by Rendy who also got amongst the wickets with 3. We bowled and fielded well and restricted them to 186-5. A re shuffle in the batting order saw 2 athletes at the top of the pile. Fitzy and Dionne confirmed that there would be very
few 3s run and 2s would only be taken as a necessity. Dionne took the cowards way out and got out early in a bid to escape the heat but Fitzy stuck it out and together with Ricky Dicky Doo Dah built a solid partnership that would turn out to be the match winning one. Colin was moaning about only scoring 14 in a partnership of 90 but without him it wouldn't have happened. After Colin was out, Fitzy accelerated again before heat,
exhaustion and obesity finally made him fall on his sword for a fine 84. Chris Vallis was already in fine form he eventually carried his bat for an excellent 38 not out. Chris was joined at the wicket by Graham Martin who after being relieved of his openers responsibilities found timing, power and runs at number 6 and he raced to 21 not out to give us 3rd victory of the campaign. Well played everyone it was a much needed
victory and helps us climb the table if not positionally at least with points!

Dorset 3rd XI  v  Lytchett Manor

Yes another hot Sat and this one was sunny as well. With the rest of the team going on a mystery tour of the Lytchetts I was feeling rather lonely especially as I’d seen the convoy go sailing on by. The visit to the play could only mean we were going to perform our own farce later on. Well I won the toss and elected to bat on the mat of Rabbit and bird droppings. Jack perished early and Tim stuck around for 20 at 53-5 .At 63-6 we were slightly in the poo the skipper arrived @67-8 we were in the shit. The skipper decided to have a thrash and after depositing the ball in the next field a couple of times, with great support from Nick Arnold we got to 111-9(Turkey 37 I still reckon 41).The Arnold brothers at the wicket we got to 160 –9 at the end of 45 Overs a brilliant 21 not out for both John and Nick. BRILLIANT innings by two of our youngsters to give us a bloody good chance. The Biggest THANK YOU of the day goes to our man in the dark glasses Mr. Jack Baveridge for his huge effort in standing there for god knows how many overs umpiring. After a good tea (8) we wandered out to field. We didn’t really get in to them but we did have a laugh. We must show more compassion to an injured team mate rather than rolling around on the floor laughing but it was bloody funny watching Shaun chest the ball down rather than catch it. They reached the target in the 39th over for 3 wickets. We stuck at it but didn’t make it. Could somebody explain to Tim he needs the ball (that’s the red thing with seam on it) to get a stumping but he made a nice mess of the stumps but only 2 byes. Once again we gave away to many wides23. Its Weymouth labour this week at home

Turkey

Hampshire 1st XI   v   Lymington 4th's
Ken Grubb and Richie Robinson put on an opening stand of 50 (Ken 18 and Ritchie 37) but we fell from 78-1 to 101-9 with the aid of a couple of interesting l.b.w. decisions before Aaron Brown 41 no and Ritchie Ballam 22 took us to 145 ao. They also had a good start but Bill Nicholls 4-36 and Derek's spell could only delay the inevitable defeat by 5 wickets. A great catch by Aaron and Ben having a bowl were good signs but with 26 extra's and too many 4 ball's gave it away.
Colts XI  v Poole Town

The under 15/16 were left in the charge of Adie whilst I was away, helping our 1st team to lose the Campbell Cup final to Bournemouth Sports. On a quick outfield we scored 13 4's and 1 6 and finished our overs,  all out for 114. Taylor (21) lead the way with Barney (20) Crunch (16) Sam (12) & Ben (11*) all contributing.Out we went to field and after 5 overs they had reached 60 without loss. Then Barney took a cracking diving catch to give Taylor (3-0-21-1) our only wicket. Poole Town passed our score off of 10.3 overs.

So that was the hat trick of defeats at the hands of Poole Town.

U14's  v Poole Town
The under 14s had to travel to the Grammer School for their lesson in cricket and after being put into bat it was looking promising when Aaron Hayman retired in the 3rd over for a very hard hit 30. Unfortunately we couldn’t keep the momentum going and despite good knocks from Matty Ings and Lewis Fitzjohn we couldn’t keep the scoreboard ticking at the end. Our final total of 99 was never enough and their 2 county batsmen and their wicky made light of a small total on a small pitch. Charlie Martin voted for himself in the best bowler category and to be honest he was!!
U13's v Poole Town

Due to Adie and Lisa being away, I was surrogate coach for the under 13s. We lost the toss and Poole batted. A couple of early breakthroughs by Sam Brown and Charlie Martin both thanks to catches from Matty Ward held them at bay for a while but a succession of bad bowling and some cross bat swatting from Poole got them to 140. In reply we lost wickets regularly and quickly and only Ali Garrard and Sam Brown came to terms with the bowling and our reply fizzled out at 50 for a bad defeat

Cambell Cup Final  v Bournemouth Sports Club

Losing Chris Insall in the second over was not a good start against a very strong side which included five Dorset players, but Martin Finch, Garry Coffin, Chris Rawlingsand Mike Mabbatt especially did very well to get us up to 132-7 from 14 overs. This score was never going to be enough ( in fact 180 would not have been enough) but we held them at bay for eleven overs before losing by nine wickets. A very good showing and a good game to watch. Well done lads.
