Dorset 1st XI     v   Parley

Well another scorching hot day at Dean Park which was our "Away" game against Parley, which was an extremely important game. I won the toss and elected to bet keen to avenge our opening day defeat. Martin Finch and Clive Johns again took to the field to face the new ball. a great start saw us take advantage of some wayward bowling with Finchy starting like a train. A good opening stand saw us get to 80 before Clive was run out for a good 24. Finchy carried on the hard hitting before being caught for a solid 51. Runs kept flowing with Fitzy 27 and Neil 33 keeping up the early pace. Creepy with 31 kept it ticking over to set up a final onslaught from James Dillon 18no and Frankie a superb 26no putting on almost 50 in around 5 overs.       PATHETIC TEA!!

We took to the field in good spirits and Paul Barber and Chris Rawlings opened the bowling and kept the runs to a minimum keeping them to 30-1 off the first 10. The change bowling of James Dillon and Frankie was timed perfectly with James picking up a wicket in his first over and ending with 8.1-0-33-2. Frankie also took a very important wicket in his figures of 7-0-38-1. we kept taking wickets here and there before Creepy returned and ended with figures of 9-1-39-4. Elliot also bowled with pace returning figures of 7-0-32-2. We eventually bowled them out for 227 claiming 25 points along the way. An excellent all round performance from everyone sees me picking the same team 2 weeks running for the first time this season. Blandford this week is also important but with the renewed confidence in the team we are more than capable of winning.

Dorset 2nd XI  v  Bere Regis

The 2nd XI entertained Bere Regis and after debating whether to bat or bowl first I duly lost the toss and was asked to bat.  After Chris Vallis was dropped off the first ball of the match we thought his luck was in; only a false one as he lasted only five more balls before being bowled.  A good knock from Graham (23) and Matt Hollier (14) took us up to 64-4.  Nick joined Dion at the crease and Nick took the attack to their bowlers, they put on 69 in quick time with Dion (19) and Nick a great 64 with 9 fours and 2 sixes.  We batted out our 45 overs and ended up with 184-8, a good target to bowl to.
Bingsy 12-3-38-1 and Chris Davies 9-2-29-1 opened the bowling and as in the last match we had 3 wickets for a few runs. The fourth wicket partnership put on 81 before Matt Ward got his first wicket for the seniors and ended up with 5-0-26-2.   But the ever young Derek bowled tight and ended up with 10-0-37-1.  A good performance that again finished in the 43rd over and once again with us losing at 188-5.

Hampshire 2nd XI   v  Commoners

Firstly a big THANK YOU to everybody involved in getting us 11 players (mobile phone companies must love us). On the first decent sat of the season John lost the toss and was asked to field . Jim 12-2-40-2 plus a catch, Glen (the miser) Urquart 11-3-19-3,Nick (the mighty midget) Arnold 4-0-17-1 including a certain Clinton Stevenson with his only ball to him for a duck clean bowled. Barney and John with a wicket each. Plus catches from John, Our man in the dark glasses (Jack) and Mike Hancock with his first catch for us and only 20 extras this week and the rest of the team for a brilliant display in the hot conditions they got to 166-8 of 42 overs. TEA 7.5

Jack(9) and Mike led us into the heat before Mike was left on the floor bleeding from a gash to the head inflicted by an ex member of our club (see above) who couldn’t even say sorry. Barney (17), Glen with a match turning 25,Ben (long handle) Hunter (19), Nick (19) John with a skippers innings (19no) and Mike (22 no) were the hero’s as we reached 167-9 to record our first win of the season in the 40th over.

Well done guys you made my day umpiring it by winning with a brilliant Team spirit.

Turkey.

U15's  v  Poole Town

On Monday we played Poole Town in the under 15 league. Batting first we made a terrible start losing 2 wickets in the first over. Things didn’t improve when we lost our 3rd wicket in the 2nd over. We made all the mistakes we were making 3 years ago and I was close to calling the Samaritans. Aaron Hayman then came to the crease and started to salvage something from the game. He batted positively and that is what got him through. Aaron retired on 35 and gave us a base to rebuild from. The good work was carried on by Ben Woodrow who made histop score for Suttoners with 25 not out. He was assisted by Ali Garrard (13) and Cody Hayman (5 not out) as the score marched on to 115-6.

My half time team talk was fairly negative and I tried to explain that we were playing a very good side who would get the runs within 10 overs!! I was surprised with the response from our bowlers, Cody and Aaron (Man of the match) Hayman. Cody took a wicket in his first over which gave us a few positives and both bowled well. Unfortunately their batsmen were just a little bit too god for us and they got 116 for 4 wickets. Tom Goulding playing in his first game for Suttoners started well with 2 wickets for 22 and Ali Garrard took a wicket at the end thanks to a great catch by Matty Ings. We are a good side that can play a great deal better than we did but we are making silly mistakes and not learning from them. No under 15 match next week and then only 1 game left so lets focus on winning it if we can.

Good luck to the under 13s and 14s who are back in action this week.
