2nd XI v Branksome |

The 2nd XI visited windy Wallisdown to play Branksome.
Once again I lost the toss and we were asked to field. It looked a
good decision for us as Bingsy removed both their openers in the 1st
over. However, as previous weeks, we were unable to continue with
the pressure (albeit by them miss hitting and for the ball dropping
short of the fielders). We stuck at the task and they ended up
with 216-9 off 45 overs. Rendy being the pick of the bowlers with
4-52 off 11. Lewis bowled his first 12 over spell for the seniors
and finished with 2-70, figures which don't do him justice as he bowled
well, with just a couple of bad overs. Matt got 1-7 off 3, but
Bingsy bowled his usual tight spell and ended up with figures of
12-4-29-2.
For the second week running when batting we lost a wicket off the sixth
ball of the innings. Graham (11) went in and hit the ball around
but when he fell at 21 Nick joined Garry and in 21 overs they put on a
100 partnership before Garry was out for a big hitting 59 and Nick 44
quickly followed. Stuart Lanham (only his second game in 15 years)
scored 34 not out and with Matt (9) he put on a 40 partnership for the
eighth wicket. Our innings closed at 181-8. The high point
of the match were three outstanding catches by Garry, Nick and Graham.

1st XI v Cadnam |
We started the match
with two late replacements, Marks White and Protheroe to whom many
thanks. An incredibly green pitch awaited us and a lost toss
had us wondering. After about fifteen overs we were 51-6 with only
Richie Rob having an excuse but, as per the last couple of matches,
our fighting spirit and good sense prevailed. Lee Hopkins and Mark
White batted very calmly, hitting only bad balls to such an extent
that within the 73 runs they amassed there were 9 singles and
16 fours. Tim Gritt carried on the recovery and Richie Ballam
embellished it, scoring 31 and 28 respectively, both not out. Total
185-8. Alex Dowding arrived
just in time for tea and saw Cadnam make a steady start with
threatening overtones but an early change to the bowling saw the bald
spinner eke out the first six [for 22] and a gradual decline in their
scoring rate consequented. Some brilliant fielding from Taylor
Broadbent and a spectacular catch from Mr White helped Prov take 3-7
and Cal Taylor 1-18 to finish them off for 124.
Will our regular
skipper be able to claim his place back in the side, we ask?

2nd XI v Brockenhurst 2nds |
|
Well I won the toss so we were
efectivley stuffed from there on in.
I elected to bat as they only had 7 men at the game to start Jack (I can
play the reverse sweep Baveridge(15) and Nick (mm) Arnold (15) the start
wasn’t as quick as we expected but Barney lit the touch paper with a
quick 28 before an unhappy exit. Ben (17) and can somebody buy Sam
Taylor (big
Balls no balls ?????????) a box as his
voice went up a few octaves when he got hit.(10) Roger Gosby(15) and
crunch(10) got us to 150 . A disappointing incident of a Suttoner
throwing his helmet on the wicket and kicking it when out. This must
never happen again.
Another good tea.
Then to try and defend it we didn’t
help ourselves with only roger getting a wicket. Turkey
Ps we lost.
