Suttoners Match Reports For Saturday + Youth Reports For that Week------29th July

Please note could all match reports be emailed to me by Tuesday after the game
Dorset 1st XI     v   Compton House

A rainy day meant that we made a wet trip to Compton House. Raining most of the way there we were surprised that we started on time.

Due to the weather and the green wicket we put them into bat. Some good bowling and fielding saw us bowl out Compton for 205 but due to a break for the rain we needed 197 form 48 overs.

We started well scoring 40 or so from the first 5 overs. Then it all started to go wrong. Losing wickets regularly only Martin 49, Garry 30 odd and Neil 20 odd made any score of note before we were skittled for 150. Although no one was out playing rash shots our inability to score 197 against arguably the weakest bowling attack we are likely to face this year is extremely concerning. I am not going to moan on about lack of application or anything. Everything that needed to be said was said after the game in our changing room.

Or so i thought. I am getting very frustrated that everyone else in the club seems to have a moan and seems happy having a pop at the first team. Well i am here to tell everyone that as a unit we are fine, the atmosphere is still fantastic and it seems that the only people not complaining are the members of the first team. I back every player who plays in the first team 100% and am fed up with the criticism that they have to put up with. If you have something to say then come and discuss it with me. We are not losing on purpose!!

Broadstone this week. Good luck lads.....

Hampshire 1st XI  v  Hampshire 2nds

Surprisingly, following some light rain, the 2nds decided to bat first and without too many shocks reached 34-1 from 11 overs at which juncture Mike Hancock was out for 23 including three wonderful square cuts for four. Following this the squeeze was put on and only Nick Arnold with 20 reached double figures, the team's innings spanning 37 overs and a lot of fight being shown against some good bowling, Ben 3-15 from 8, Jess 4-24 from 10, Derek 2-17 from 11 and Richie B 1-17 from 7, the total being 77.

Jim Straight caused problems in his 2-27 and Chris B took 1-15 with his leggies but Richie B 13, James B 15 and Jess 33 not out reached the target in the 15th over. The spirit was excellent , the difference was apparent but the good sign is that the club has a hell of a lot of talent coming through. Well done all.
