1st XI v Broadstone |
|
Well after losing the toss and being asked to bowl first against
the team in second place, I wondered if it was going to be another
long day in the field.
Another opening bowling attack saw James Dillon and debutant Jamie
Gawler bowl with pace and determination. After a great opening spell
from each bowler we had Broadstone 48-5. James Dillon ended the
innings with figures of 10-3-35-5 and Jamie Gawler 8.1-2-23-2. The
change bowlers continued the pressure with Creepy, Elliot and Paul
Harding all bowling tight spells. Creepy ended with figures of
10-4-14-2. Jamie Gawler also ran a man out with a direct hit!!
We ended up bowling them out for 140
Great tea.
Well into bat we went full of confidence. Unfortunately at 7-2 we
were thinking all of the usual thoughts. We picked up a few more runs
but found ourselves 41-5 and looking in trouble once again. Elliot and
Creepy came together and set about restoring the innings putting on 74
before Creepy returned a catch to the bowler and was out for 26.
Unfortunately this started a mini collapse and from being 114-5 we
again found ourselves struggling at 121-8. We kept stealing runs
before Paul Harding was caught and we were then 138-9. Another single
was taken leaving us needing 2 runs to win, with Lawrence and Jamie at
the crease. Unfortunately we fell short with Lawrence being run out by
a good throw in from the cover boundary. Although everyone was
obviously upset at the result, we did take a lot of good things from
the game. Firstly the whole game was played in a fantastic spirit. We
also managed to push the second best team in the league to their limit
only just falling short of a deserved victory. Yes we should have won,
but we didnt. Nobody died and lets face it.... its only Poole this
week. Good luck lads......

2nd XI v Wimborne 2nds |
|
A good bowling and fielding performance. The pick
of the bowlers were Andy
Coleman 12 overs, 5 maidens, 3-18 and Paul Barber 4-40 off 12 overs. We
restricted them to 143-8. In reply we made very hard work of what we
thought
was an easy target, so much so, that we needed 1 run to win with 1
wicket
remaining but suicide running from Jockey saw us home by the skin of our
teeth.

1st XI v Ellingham |
|
This match was played on an artificial
track surrounded by football and rugby pitches that were extremely
uneven, rock hard and bereft of decent grass. We batted first with
Steve Warwick, in borrowed trainers-he's so manly, and Richie Robinson
putting on 89 for the first wicket, scoring 29 and 64 respectively.
Aaron Brown, back from holiday, got off the mark with a six and along
with Lee Walker, raced us along to nearly 200, holing out for 71. Lee
went on to reach a well deserved half century [52 not out] and helped
by Glenn Suttey with another not out [12] who's average is now about
10,000, took us to 243-3 at tea time.
Ellingham attacked us from the start
and although Ben Clifford, 2-40, took two early-ish wickets and Richie
Ballam 1-42, at the half way mark, drinks, they were 125-4. The answer
was to slow it down and this paid off with daddy Derek 6-43 and his
little boy Lee 1-49 aided by some excellent catches from Jack and Ben
and two splendid stumpings from Richie Rob, having them all out for
179. Well done to Jack and Turkey, who very nearly did a perfect job
with the scoreboard, for slotting in so well. A good hard game with
the right outcome.

2nd XI v Cadnam 3rds |

Batting first on a fantastic wicket??? we scored an outstanding 212-9
from
our 42 overs. Chris Insall on his comeback scored 54 with good knocks
from
Nick Arnold (43) who put on 35 for the 5th wicket with Matt Stratern
(16).
With a few overs left John Arnold came in and took us to our total with
a
fine 43 not out. In reply, they got off to a good start getting to 50
without loss. We kept on going with Jimmy Straight 12-32-1, Kenny 6-25-2
and
young Nick 2-4-3 with 2 great catches and Barney 2-12 bowled them out
for
110. We picked up maximum points so same again this week and enjoy it!!!

Dezoete Cup
We are no longer the
holders of this prestigious trophy, having been outplayed, just, by
Henstridge in the semi-final last Thursday at Dean Park. Surprisingly
we had only ten adult players which, in hindsight, probably cost us at
least ten runs, no disrespect to young Tom Barber, which could
possibly have made the difference as our total of 85 all out was
passed with just three balls remaining. Our bowling and fielding was
outstanding and did a lot to help us regain our pride.
Henstridge
went on to beat Christchurch in the final who, themselves, won a low
scoring semi-final against Winton Sports, with just four balls
remaining having chased 130 to win. It was pleasing to see so many of
our lads stay on for the day and thanks are due to Alex and Garry
Coffin and Ben Clifford for doing the collection.
We raised over £140
pounds at the event and Mick Callaghan, an ex local cricketer, offered
to double the take, a marvellous gesture.
