Dorset 1st XI     v   Colehill

A win at last and what a turn around from the previous 2 weeks. In a game that saw Colehill only field 9 players we knew that we needed the win, and we did it in style. Winning the toss i elected to bat much to the disgust of the opposition captain. Chris Insall and Martin Finch set about doing what they do best, hitting the ball to all parts. In an openeing stand of 172 Finchy was exceptional for his 65 but Chris Insall back to his destructive best hit 112 from 87 balls and was eventually out in about the 25th over!! the runs continued with Neil Corbin (47) and Chris Rawlings (37) putting on over 50. Some crisp hitting down the order saw us reach 341-8 from our 50 overs. Nice tea!! We took to the field in good spirits determined to attack from the start It paid off as after 6 overs they were 3 down. Paul Barber 2-39 and James Dillon 2-34 bowled superbly as did Paul Harding 1-18. The show was stolen though by a quiet young lad called Jess Hodgson. He ran in and bowled with Pace, determination and grit and was rewarded with figures of 6-0-19-3 which included 8 wides. We eventually bowled Colehill out for 113. To see a young lad so eager to do well was very pleasing as was the support he recieved from the rest of the team. Jess has made his place in the first team his own and i think everyone could learn something from his sheer will to win. Well done lads, Wayfarers this week lets win again!! Anyone who has not paid subs are letting the club down. Please pay NOW!!!

Dorset 2nd XI  v Pavilion

When all around is calm you miss the panic and the bedlam. No phone calls this week!!!!  Well there were two. First one was Creepy which made me worry but he only phoned to say no one had dropped out and Bingsy rang me to say he was in bed and hot and sweaty but that was nothing to do with cricket!!!!   Slades Farm has always held a special place in my heart but it seemed wrong that instead of playing East to West we now play North to South. Never mind the pitch looked good and the only possible problem was the overcast skies and the forecast of rain (heavy at times). Good toss to win I hear you thinking. How would I know Ive lost all 3 so far this season. They decided to bat and their openers did an excellent job, getting to 129 before their first wicket fell in the 29th over. Yeah they rode their luck, yeah we dropped them both at least once but they batted well on a placid pitch. We bowled reasonably well with out much luck but their shots hit the gaps! Fitzy tied one end up with 12-1-26-1 and when Clive Johns turned his arm over (5-0-20-3) we started to take control. We slowed their scoring down and held them at 207-5, which we felt, was a major result after their great start. Our batting line up was as strong as I have picked for a long time but unfortunately many of us were lacking in this department and we crumbled to 28-3 losing the top three too cheaply. Then a fight back from Garry Coffin and Nick Dennett (23 and a dead bat) got us to 61 before the wickets started going again. Then another fight back, firstly Graham Martin steadied things with Garry, then a whirlwind 35 from 25 balls, from Frankie (including 29 off 2 overs) got us right back in the hunt then more wickets (3 – 30) and the increasingly brilliant Garry Coffin was running out of partners. We got to a position of needing 18 to win from 3 overs and after 2 twos from the first 2 balls Bingsy was run out leaving us deflated and 14 runs adrift. Garry Coffin was like a beacon in the gloom of Slades Farm and batted superbly for his undefeated 86. A very spirited performance in a game that we never deserved to win.  To be fair they batted better than we did and they bowled better than we did so the result was just in their favour. We did ourselves proud and many thanks to Garry Coffin and Frankie for some exciting batting that warmed us up just a little.

Hampshire 1st XI  v  Hordle Village 2nds

On a cold and dreary day at the Manor my first choice was which pitch to play on. The fact that at the end of the game it would be too much hard work to get all the stuff back in again I decided to play on the clubhouse pitch (this would later prove to be my down full).

For the second week running I won the toss and elected to bat.jack(23)glynn (22) got us to 45-1shaun(yes this is how its spelt)34)96-1 then a mini collapse and we were at 123-5 then arrived Ben( long handle) Hunter who bludgeoned 35no and our mate Mr. Extras(39) we got to 168-8 off our 42 overs.

After a tea amongst the football we wandered out to field.Jonny 1-27,turkey 1-20,Jockey1-9,and Long Handle spraying it around with 2-29,they reached 170-5 in 32.4 overs.Rendy held 2 ,Crunch with a brilliant display behind the stumps 1ct and only 3 byes. We put down 6-8 catches (3 crucial) and 1 on a no ball, cost us dear. All I can say is I don't want to be at home when England play in the world cup Australia, different matter).

Off to Mudeford this week its @ BH23 4QS

Hampshire 2nd XI   v  Beaulieu

U15's  v  Parley

Under 15s- Great batting from Josh (37 ret) and Taylor (24) led us to a total of 115-4 against Christchurch. Sam Brown (11), Ali G (9) and Mingsy (8 from 3 balls) also assisted. I didn’t think 115 was enough we missed lots of singles but the lads were confident.

With the score on 76-0 I had resigned myself to defeat. We were bowling some utter garbage. Then out of nowhere a flash of inspiration must have hit someone and 2 wickets for Aaron and a quick change of bowling at both ends had the batting side running for cover. Sam Brown tied one end up with 3-0-10-0 while birthday boy Matty Ward filled his boots with 3.5-0-11-5.

They needed 8 to win and we needed 3 wickets amazingly we got them to win a thriller. All out 109 and a great game.

U14's  v

U13's  v  B'mth Assasins

On saturday we entertained Bmth Assasins in the first round of the East Dorset Cup. Bmth won the toss and batted, they reached 147-5 (50 extras 29 wides/no balls)off there 20 overs (nearer 25 overs with the extra balls) Adam 2-19, Scott 1-8, Tom 1-10 and Matt 1-19 he also took 2 catches. We then batted and for the first time this season the Boys realised that the bat was to hit the ball with and not to lean on. Matt plundered 30 quick runs and retired but Tom (27) and Adam (21) carried on and we ended up 106 all out with 3 balls remaining. A great improvement in the Batting but still work to do on the Bowling and Fielding. Thanks to Nick for keeping the umpires on their toes when their clickers could not count to six and still get the scores right at the end.

Under 13s -On Wednesday we travelled to Parley in the Blackmoor Vale Cup. Matt won the toss and put them in, after their 20 overs they had scored 134-5 (46 extras 26 wides/no balls). Our new opening bowler Craig took 1-9, Tom 2-19 and with his first wicket for the Club Harry "Bambi" Rendell 1-27. Being short of an opening bat Harry volunteered his services and scored his first run for the Club, Kris top scored with 3 (his first runs for the U13's)and we were all out for 16 (8 ducks) in 9 overs. No more needs to be said apart from thanking Nick for scoring and the Parents for getting them there on time.

U10's  v  Parley

We fielded first and took 4 wickets in our innings; Joe, Kyle, Alex M and Jake took the wickets and Sammy and Toby took good catches.  We bowled very well with only a few wides. The fielding and backing up were also good. Hamworthy ended up with a total of 269. We thought we could get this total after last week’s performance but were missing 3 batsmen.  Joe and Kyle opened, although they didn’t score highly they played the ball straight.  Toby and Sammy went in and were confident but did not score many runs.  Our third pair of Jake and Alex M ran when they could and poor Alex M got caught every time he hit the ball in the air.  Alex C and Alex M finished the innings on 194. Playing in the under 10s was a learning curve.  Hamworthy’s last pair scored 40 runs and didn’t get out; this effectively won them the game.  We played well but need to be more confident hitting the ball and not so cautious.Next week’s game is at home to Bransgore but I am away as are my boys.  I’ll let you know who will be there to run it.
