Dorset 1st XI     v   Compton House

On a day of troubled weather, we arrived at Dean Park to the news that the game would go ahead. Our opponents were Compton House who although were bottom of the league came to win and drag themselves up the league. With Elliot Brookes missing we  were a little shy on bowling, but our batting line up was very strong. On winning the toss i decided to put them into bat on a wicket that looked like it would do a bit. Again James Dillon 9-1-35-2 and Paul Barber 7-2-27-1 opened the bowling and with early wickets kept the pressure on from the start. A change in the bowling was due so i asked Jess to bowl from James' end. Again he did not let us down. Bursting with energy he constantly hurried the batsmen and returned figures of 7-1-22-1. I threw the ball up into the air for a bowler from the other end and caught it mysef. I bowled well but with no luck returning figures of 9-4-8-6. 7 catches were taken in all included in our best fielding display so far. Compton house were all ouf for 99.Great tea!!

Chris and Martin went to open but we lost Martin early to a shocking LBW decision(The bowler didn't even appeal but an overhead seagull coughed). In came Clive Johns and after seeing the new ball away he started to play some good shots. Not to be outdone Chris started hiiting the ball to all parts again seeing us close to our total. A quick scare when it started to rain and losing Clive for a good 33 late on, we passed our target with ease. Chris finished 51no

A great win but still room for improvement. Broadstone this week will be a tough game but we can win. Keep it going!!!

Dorset 2nd XI  v Cattistock

The race night at the Manor on Friday became an inpromptu selection meeting with Garry Coffin being snaffled by Creepy only to be returned in the morning and all the associated movements almost back to normal. I inherited a wicket keeper while Tims knees are on the mend and we welcomed to the club Rich Bader for his first game. The signs were good when I won the toss and with strength and depth in batting I thought it would be good to put a score on the board. I still think it would have been good to put a score on the board but 116 was not the one I had in mind. Chris Vallis at the top of the order did well with 28 but we fell away drastically with the score 24-4 at one point. This became 45-5 and we were in big poo. Fitzy (28) and Nick Dennett (22) salvaged the situation somewhat but the push from the lower order never came despite Wardy losing another ball on his way to 10 not out. Not an easy pitch to bat on and this was to be true in the second innings. Frankie was excellent with 10-4-16-0 as was Bingsy 12-3-28-0 but they defended well and preserved their wickets. Fitzy gave us a sniff of victory with 12-1-22-3 but their experience gave them the edge at the end and their perfectly time run chase ended in the 44th over with only 5 down. It was a great game of cricket with lots of twists and turns. No one likes losing but if you have to it is always nice to know that you put up a good fight and we certainly did that.
