Dorset 1st XI     v   Wimborne

Dorset 2nd XI  v  Blandford 2nds

With Fitzy and Clive playing for the 1st team the burden of Captaincy away at Blandford was placed at my door.  Only two un availabilities, one on Saturday morning.  Thanks to Ben for letting me have the Gritt brothers.
Once again the sun was shinning and after looking at the quality of the pitch!! I duly won the toss and elected to bat.  After 21 overs we were 60-7 and then Rendy joined Adam and showed the rest of us how to bat.  When Adam was out for a great 60 in the 39th over they had an 85 run partnership, with Rendy 43, which, with some late hitting by the tail enders we ended up with 176-10 off 45 overs.
Chris Davies put his failure to score with the bat into an inspired bowling performance and removed their opening 3 batsmen and ended up with final figures of 10-4-19-3.  He was ably backed up by the reliable Bingsy 12-1-44-0 and Adam who followed up his batting with 10-1-39-0.  Unfortunately the remaining bowlers could not match the first three and from a position of 30-3 at the first drink break, they achieved an unbroken partnership of 148 to with in the 40th over.

Hampshire 1st XI  v  Swan Green 2nds

Hampshire 2nd XI   v  Damerham

We turned up in dribs and drabs to one of the grounds you read about in books, a well-manicured ground, a beautiful setting and the pub just overthe fence. We batted first, a good stand of 50 between Mike Hancock (43) & John (skipper) Arnold (15) for the second wicket got us to 73-2,then we had our usual collapse to 118-9 before Jocky (6 into the pavilion) Wilson (13no) and Martin (Ill play as were short) Turk (46) with two of his obligatory sixes got us to 179all out. As with the tail end of last season our last wkt got us valuable runs. (Had to do something tea wasn’t ready)A proper village tea (9).We wandered out to field. Jimmy 10-3-37-1 and gings (no hair do this week) 12-3-27-3 straight through) were the pick of the bowling with Glyn 2.4-0-24-2 helping out. Catches from mike behind the stumps and Turkey gobbling one up on the run. They reached 180-5 of 34.4 overs. Thanks to every body for trying their best on a hot sticky afternoon. With the second team not having a game this week a few of us will be taking a break to get over injuries etc.

U15's  v  Christchurch

I don’t want to talk about the under 15 cup match for too long but to cut a long story short we lost. They batted us out of the game with a hard hit 143-4 our bowling was poor and our fielding sloppy . The pick of the bowling was probably Matty Ward whose 2 overs were very tight and accurate. 143 was always a big ask but to lose Taylor in the 2nd over with a recurrence of his back injury was a major blow. We then went into panic mode and 2 needless run outs and aerial rubbish sent us from 35-1 to 52-7 and the game was over. Well batted to Matty Ings (15) , Matty Ward ( 14 ), Josh (11) and Ali Garrard (13) but we were well and truly stuffed by a mouthy bunch who really need to assess their ability before they get too carried away. Some of their behaviour was disgraceful and if I were their coach  half of them wouldn’t be playing. Encouragement is one thing but that bordered on the disrespectful and I doubt they will be quite so chirpy if they play Parley in the next round.

U14's  v Wareham

On  Sunday the Under 14s hosted Wareham and after the toss we were batting. A solid start from Ali G and Josh was interrupted with a couple of wickets Josh for 21 and Charlie Martin kept the runs ticking but lack of application meant we under achieved with the bat again aver good partnership in the middl between Charlie and Tom Keir made it respectable but 107 wasn’t really enough on a warm morning. Pick of the bunch was Charlie with 26, Josh with 21 and Tommy with 17. On the bowling fron we had a great start with James Lovatt making the best possible start with a wicket first ball. He followed this with another wicket 3rd ball and Wareham were 2-0 after the first over. The bowling continued to be tight but once again too many wides from certain bowlers and some loose fielding gave them a glimpse of victory. James Lovatt had finished his spell with 4-2-9-3 and Charlie Martin took over the mantle as destroyer and finished with 4-0-5-2. We won but only just, they were 101-7 and we limped over the winning line. Still, another victory and the best under 14 season for a long time we can play better than we did but if you can play badly and get away with a win all is OK.
